Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP, Northern Ireland) Youth International Secretary, Killian Feehan, has welcomed the campaign being driven by the Party of European Socialists Your future is my future - a European Youth Guarantee now!"
Activists of the Party of European Socialists gathered today in the Square de Meeûs, Brussels to officially launch the campaign.
Killian Feehan said: “This is a much needed boost for the 5.5 million young people who are currently searching for work in vain.
“As affiliated members of the Party of European Socialists and its youth group, ECOSY, SDLP Youth welcomes this initiative as a means of putting collective pressure on the European community to make a larger effort to help tackle this worrying statistic.
“The campaign hopes to achieve a ‘European Youth Guarantee’. This guarantee will demand that efforts are made right across Europe to ensure that every young person is offered a job, further education or work-focused training at the latest four months after leaving education or after becoming unemployed.
“Along with thousands of PES activists in other countries, SDLP Youth will be doing its part to ensure that this campaign is heard right across Europe.
Young people are our future, let’s start recognising this.”
