Willmott calls on the EU to fund youth jobs
“We call on the European Union to bring forward plans to fund a Youth Jobs Guarantee,” said Glenis Willmott, Leader of Labour’s MEPs, in a speech to Labour’s Conference in Manchester on Monday.
“I’m not arguing for any increase in the EU budget. This fund can be paid for initially by using 10 billion euros in unused European Social Funding,” she added.
Derek Vaughan MEP endorses the European Youth Guarantee campaign
Welsh Labour Euro MP, DEREK VAUGHAN, has backed calls for a European Youth Guarantee that would provide every young person in the EU with a job, further education or a training place at the latest four months after leaving education or after becoming unemployed.
The European Youth Guarantee scheme proposed by PES (Party of European Socialists) is designed to help the 5.5 million young people in the EU currently without a job.

PES launches the campaign “Your future is my future - A European Youth Guarantee now!”
The Party of European Socialists (PES) today launched its flagship campaign “Your future is my future - A European Youth Guarantee now!”, which aims to tackle the crisis of youth unemployment in Europe. Currently, 5.6 million young Europeans are jobless, more than the entire population of Denmark. This inactivity costs Europe 100 billion euro every year. A European Youth guarantee, as being proposed by the PES could be supported by 10 billion euros from EU structural funds. This funding could help bring 2 million young people out of unemployment by 2014.
