The Party of European Socialists (PES), PES Women and ECOSY have strongly welcomed the calls by French President François Hollande and Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann for a European Youth Guarantee. The two leaders, meeting in Paris yesterday, have said that the funding of the Guarantee scheme could be through a Financial Transaction Tax (FTT).

Ce vote marque le coup d’envoi de la nouvelle politique de l’emploi de Michel Sapin (Ministre du Travail, de l'Emploi et du Dialogue social) et Jean-Marc Ayrault (premier ministre). Il permettra d’offrir à 150 000 jeunes d’accéder à un vrai travail, avec un vrai contrat, un vrai salaire et une vraie formation.

Depuis 2008, l'Europe est étranglée par la crise économique et financière. Les États membres et l'Union Européenne enchaînent les sommets et les négociations mais peinent à trouver les solutions adéquates et nécessaires à la reprise.

Cet effondrement brutal de l'économie fragilise tous les ressortissants de l'Union. Il affecte l'ensemble des salariés travaillant sur le territoire européen. Absence de perspectives, chômage, précarité sont des situations désespérément communes sur le marché du travail.

Pervenche Berès MEP has proposed a European Youth Guarantee in a resolution approved by the European Parliament on 24 May.

The MEPs are calling for the reallocation of EU structural funds to projects capable of creating jobs for young people, and asking for a "European Youth Guarantee" to be implemented. This guarantee is already defended by the PES and it would ensure that young people are not without jobs for more than four months.

The Party of European Socialists (PES) today launched its flagship campaign “Your future is my future - A European Youth Guarantee now!”, which aims to tackle the crisis of youth unemployment in Europe. Currently, 5.6 million young Europeans are jobless, more than the entire population of Denmark. This inactivity costs Europe 100 billion euro every year. A European Youth guarantee, as being proposed by the PES could be supported by 10 billion euros from EU structural funds. This funding could help bring 2 million young people out of unemployment by 2014.
