Last weekend in Nottingham (30 November – 1 December), the PES participated in a very successful event on youth unemployment. The event was co-hosted by the Socialists and Democrats (S&D) Group in the European Parliament (EP), and the UK Labour Party.
As part of the event, the delegates visited local Employment centres to see how young people were being introduced to the world of work.
The President of the S&D Group, Hannes Swoboda, and the head of the Labour Party in the EP, Glenis Willmott were joined by the leader of the British Labour Party, Ed Miliband,. The event was the latest in the Relaunching Europe series.
The debates focused on the extremely high levels of youth unemployment around Europe and the need for a European Youth Guarantee.
Dominic Hannigan TD, Chair of the EU Affairs Committee in the Irish Parliament, spoke of the commitment that the incoming Irish Presidency of the EU would give to the Youth Guarantee.
